A young actress has called for people to leave the “dying alone” mentality in the wake of the terrorist attacks on London.
In a message on her Instagram page, aladdin hairstier Laila Alhaj, 26, said she wanted people to be aware of the “growing threat” of terrorism and to consider how they live together.
She said the UK “is our home” and there are many ways to make sure everyone stays safe.
“We all need to be mindful of each other and what our families, friends and communities have done, but we also need to take it seriously and act accordingly,” she wrote.
“Our lives depend on it.
Do not be a bystander or a victim of terrorism, it will destroy you and those around you.”
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, she said she felt “disillusioned” and stressed that there were other ways to live.
“I don.
Not because I feel it is a terrible thing that happened, but because I don’t feel that it is my place to do it,” she said.”
If you’re feeling depressed or whatever, just go to your mates, get a friend and have a good laugh.
You’re doing the right thing.
That’s what you need to do.
And you should not be alone in that.
You can’t be alone.”
In response to the tragedy, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said she is “heartbroken and horrified” by the “horrific terrorist attack” and has offered her “support” to the victims.
“As a country we are united in mourning the loss of life and I want to extend my condolences to the families of the victims,” she tweeted.
She later added: “The government will do everything possible to support the victims and those affected.”
The UK was one of the first countries to react to the attacks with a national lockdown, and people are now allowed to travel to the UK but are warned to be careful.
