A new kind of hairdressers.
You know, the kind that takes a photo of you on the street, puts it in a box, and sends it to you in a GIF.
The Gumdrop Hairdressing Company, founded by Adam Reed, uses a little-known service called Gumdrop that allows you to “sell” a photo in the Gumdrop app, or “ticker” it to get a discount.
The service allows you (in real time) to sell a photo, “get a discount” on it, and then use Gumdrop to pay off the credit card.
“If you pay for a photo with Gumdrop, it’s the best way to get that discount,” Reed told Mashable.
He explained that the company started in 2014 and now has about 1,000 members.
The photo is typically a wedding, or something that has an engagement ring on it.
“It’s just a simple thing,” Reed said.
“A photo is a pretty basic thing that people do all the time.”
You can pay for photos with Gumdrops on a credit card or in the app.
“We’re kind of like a payment service.
We’re not a real-time payment service,” Reed explained.
You can also use Gumdrops to pay for the photo, which is usually a discount or something like that.
“The beauty of it is that you can get a free picture, you can pay us to take a photo for you and we’re not going to charge you anything,” Reed added.
“When you get the photo in Gumdrop and you’re done, it gives you a discount, so you get it for free.”
You’ll need a Gumdrop account to use the service.
Once you create an account, you’ll need to create a photo and attach a link to it in the Facebook Messenger app.
Then you can send it to Reed.
Reed explained that Gumdrops photos are “not very large,” meaning you can upload any photo you want, and he said the service works on iOS and Android.
Reed said the company does not support Apple products, and it does not allow users to sell their photos to third parties.
“For us, it was a little tricky,” Reed admitted.
“I don’t know how we could do this for Apple.
It would be like having a store.
It’s a little hard.”
The company recently raised $3.2 million in seed funding.
“In just a few months, we’ve had a couple of users who have sold their photos in Gumdrops, which has been a really cool experience,” Reed noted.
“One of them sold her wedding ring for $15.”
Reed said he was able to sell the ring for a discount because the wedding ring was the first photo that Gumdrop had purchased.
Reed also said that the photo sold on Gumdrop has been “very high-quality.”
The photo sold for $10.99 on Gumdrops.
Reed told us that the photos have also been used in ads.
“Some of them have been used for social media, some have been for retail, some of them are even used in a fashion video,” Reed recalled.
Gumdrop recently launched in the U.K. and Ireland.
“That’s been really cool,” Reed observed.
“There’s been a lot of interest.
It is a really unique way to use a photo.
It has really high quality, it looks really good on your phone, and you can sell it for a very low price.”
Reed told our friend and Mashable India editor Anupam Gupta that the service is still in its infancy, but that it has “been great for our growth and growth of the company.”
“It is really exciting to see this service growing so rapidly,” Reed agreed.
“This is a new way of doing things.”
